The Little Rack That Could

Igor's Home: Console to Dog House **Updated**

(source) I'm a Pinterest addict. If I'm not searching photos on the computer, then I'm on the iPhone app 'liking' them for later. (I generally only 'like' pins on my phone. I like to look into the Pin to see if it has a legit website attached, etc... so many times, I've categorized a Pin and it's just a photo from Flickr... so frustrating). Recently, I pin'd a revamp that got my creative juices flowing. Erin Rages took an old console TV and made it into a dog bed. As soon as I pin'd this, I…

crochet patch

this is another one i did from the front of the hole instead of from the inside. i free formed the patch and then just stitched it on. i used a flexible cutting board to put inside the leg so i could sew it on easier. that is the orange showing through. the other leg of the jeans i patched with black. a smaller hole and thin spot. lately, i've had trouble with thin spots in jeans. fixing the holes after they wear though is one thing but i wanted to stop them before it became another hole…

Great make over on black candle sticks.

Candlestick Makeover

I found this Blessings Unlimited Candlestick Set while flipping through their online catalog and knew instantly that I needed to transform my current trio of black wooden candlesticks. Blessings Unlimited Candle Set Here sit my candles ready for their makeover.... To achieve the vintage distressed finish, I first sanded the black finish and applied the two coats of gold metallic paint. I then chose a cream color and a light blue paint from my leftover paint shelf to apply to the bases to…

Paint lids of metal jars

the great cookie bake-off

Pinterest. It's responsible for so much of my behavior these days. The good. The bad. The highly caloric. Pinboard claims of the "best chocolate chip cookie on the planet", and "you'll never make another cookie recipe....ever!" got my attention. I've got several go-to cookie recipes in my arsenal, but the fam always seems to like good old chocolate chip the best. What if I've been making sub-par chocolate chip cookies all these years? Perish the thought. So I gathered the ingredients for the…

Cake Diet

Want to go on a cake diet? Turn your cake pan into a message center! Actually I picked this oversized cake pan up at the thrift store. I lightly sanded the inside bottom, used primer and 2 coats of chalkboard paint. As we have established, I am cheap, that is why I use the brush on chalkboard paint--it costs so much less than the spray paint. I added a ribbon around the edge and as a hanger. What I love is that it is both a chalkboard and a magnet board. Another view: By the way, I having…

Chalk it Up: a Dozen Creative Chalkboard Ideas

I'm still traumatized from having to stand in front of the entire class, chalk in my quivering hand, until I figured out the world's hardest math problem (I still have nightmares about Sister Celine).

Thrift Store Transformation #2 ...... Repurposed Loaf Pans

Last month I shared with you my first thrift store transformation....turning clear glass bud vases into painted and distressed candlesticks. I was shocked (and very grateful) for the interest that you showed and the wonderful comments you left! Since the idea of a transformation you could do yourself was so popular, I decided that I will (try) do a project every month using something anyone can find at their local thrift store or yard sale. Another thing that always seems in large supply…

Adorable way to MEND JEANS with cute fabric and embroidery floss! Kids will LOVE their "new" jeans! The Beating Hearth Blog

Get your mending on

My brother-in-law told me recently that even though I have girls, they play like boys. It's true. My daughters are the rough-housing, chase the dog around the house, wrestle things to the ground and crawl around like whatever animal they are playing today, kind of girls. Quite often this involves shimmying around on their hands and knees...and wearing out the knees in their pants. I am not completely opposed to my kids wearing holey jeans...I'm frugal...but it isn't my favorite either to…
