Earthquakes around the world: see every quake, updated live
Earthquake Locations
Teaching Idea: How to Demonstrate an Earthquake Using JELL-O. This would be a really fun investigation for my students to do. I foresee them critically thinking about ways they could build a strong building to survive the JELL-O earthquake. They would then test the strength of their houses and talk about why some designs worked better than others. Teaching Idea:These are two sensory activities that show students how the crustaceous plates of the earth move and how mountains form from colliding plates. Although this may be a slightly more juvenile demonstration than others I pinned, I do think that they visually make a good point. It would help clarify an abstract concept for my students. 5th Grade Science, Ideas, Science Lessons, Science Activities For Kids, Science Programs, 4th Grade Science

Science Content: This is a website put out by the government that compiles information about tectonics plates, sea floor spreading, hot spots and the "ring of fire" from various sources. I really appreciate that all of the sources are reliable and accurate. Ultimately, this would help me learn how to explain the same topic in a variety of ways, an invaluable resource for a teacher. Science Content: This is a great website that outlines plate tectonic theories and explains how and why the plates exist and move. There are a variety of other resource that give information about earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural phenomena related to plate tectonics. I would definitely visit this website to gather deeper knowledge on the topic before teaching my lesson. Teaching Idea: Although I cannot see the entire lesson, I love the general idea of having students look at where famous earthquakes occurred and correlate them with plate boundaries. Because this is more of a high school lesson, I would have to adjust it slightly. However, I think that it would work really well as a research lesson, helping satisfy both Language Arts and Science standards.
