At the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee, on November 30, 1864, Brigadier General John Adams lost his life. As the Battle of Franklin raged, Confederate General John Adams was felled by numerous bullets as he rode his horse into the Federal works. Among his effects that day was a unique brigade flag, Many historic items were donated to the Tennessee Historical Society after the American Civil War, and among those is Adams’s headquarters flag by his widow.

Shiloh Battle Honors - Union Flags | Shiloh / Pittsburg Landing

Flag of the 1st Minnesota Light Artillery. The battery saw its first action at Shiloh where they played an important part in the defense of the "Hornets' Nest". They saw hard fighting at Corinth and as part of the Army of the Tennessee they endured the campaign to capture Vicksburg. Later the battery joined Gen. Sherman's forces in the Atlanta Campaign and the "March to the Sea." It continued with Sherman's forces through the Carolinas to the final battle of the war at Bentonville, N C.
