Maj. Gen. Jeremy F. Gilmer (1818-1883); West Point, Class of 1839. The Mexico veteran served as Chief Engineer to A.S. Johnston until he was wounded at Shiloh; then headed the engineers of the Department of Northern Virginia. In August 1863 he became Chief of the Engineer Bureau of the Confederacy.
