Deschutes Jasper
~19 x 13.3cm. Beautiful slab with blues and browns in classic forms. That flaw in the lower-right..., scratch or fracture? I've changed my mind several times. red-broken wood 012007
One of the most beautiful and interesting rocks I have collected from Mrs. Doebbler's caliche pits. It appears to be petrified wood, but the pieces are either broken or chewed and in a more or less random pattern. (I am wondering if this could have been in the stomach of an animal that was killed during a volcanic eruption and covered with ash.

Rainbow Petrified Wood (Araucarioxylon arizonicum) - Arizona State Fossil
This colorful piece of Triassic age petrified wood comes from northern Arizona. Huge logs of similarly colorful fossil wood are found lying on the desert surface in the world-famous Petrified Forest National Park. I purchased this piece from a rock shop near the park that sells wood collected from private lands in the area.
