Identification

The African golden cat (Caracal aurata) is a wild cat endemic to the rainforests of West and Central Africa. It is threatened due to deforestation and bushmeat hunting and listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. It is a close relative of both the caracal and the serval. Previously, it was placed in the genus Profelis. Its body size ranges from 61 to 101 cm (24 to 40 in) with a 16 to 46 cm (6.3 to 18.1 in) long tail.

African Golden Cat (Caracal aurata)

The African Wildcat (Felis lybica) is a small wildcat species native to Africa, West and Central Asia up to Rajasthan in India and Xinjiang in China. Both females and males range in weight from 3.2–4.5 kg (7.1–9.9 lb).

Kodkod (Leopardus guigna) These little leopards love trees, and typically stay in mature forests with many levels of growth. They can survive in agricultural regions and areas of disturbed forest, but they are becoming less common as their favorite forest habitat is destroyed. They are considered a vulnerable species and there are an estimated 10,000 or so species in the wild.

Kodkods (Leopardus guigna) are gray-brown-yellow, with several black spots and some black streaks on their head and shoulders. The tail has black rings. There are many born completely black, a condition called melanism, that occurs with other cat species as well.
