A.W. Mooney Photo: Just before midnight on March 1, 1978, N&W 2704 and 2702 led a train eastbound out of the tunnel under the Welland Canal, running over to CN Robbins where the junction with CN is. For some unknown reason the N&W train missed the stop signal, striking an eastbound CN freight 46 cars back on the 81 car train, derailing 15 CN cars of flour, autos and rubber. A couple of trailers on flats as well of the N&W power left the rails.
