Some times. I have had one instance where a patient had a hx of one blood type, and 4 yrs later was back in. I had a redraw on the specimen. Then decided it's best to read the H&P notes. Turns out pt was BMT pt. Underwent transplant, confirmed with RN. Lesson for all- if it doesn't seem right, research... it's the scientist in us MTs/MLTs.
