MEDNOYE, Russia. During World War II Mednoye was a centre of heavy tank fighting (October 1941) which formed part of the Battle of Moscow. It also became known as a NKVD mass execution site. Between April 3 and April 19, 1940, 6,311 Polish officers from the Ostashkov POW camp were brought to the area of Mednoye and subsequently shot to death behind the village of Yamka during the Katyn massacre. In 1937, 6000 of  Polish soldiers were shot here as well.

The NKVD prisoner massacres were a series of mass executions committed by the Soviet NKVD secret police against prisoners in Eastern Europe during World War II, primarily Poland, Ukraine, the Baltic states, Bessarabia and other parts of the Soviet Union from which the Red Army was withdrawing ahead of the German invasion in 1941.
Matvei Petrovich Bronstein (Russian: Матвей Петрович Бронштейн, December 2 [O.S. November 19] 1906, Vinnytsia — February 18, 1938) was a Soviet theoretical physicist, a pioneer of quantum gravity, author of works in astrophysics, semiconductors, quantum electrodynamics and cosmology. During the Great Purge, in August 1937 Bronstein was arrested. He was convicted by a list trial ("по списку") and executed the same day.
The Man Who Personally Executed Over 7000 People in 28 Days, One at a Time / Vasili Blokhin (January 7, 1895 - February 3, 1955) was a Soviet Major-General who served as the chief executioner for the NKVD (Soviet secret police). He was hand-picked for the position by Joseph Stalin in 1926. Blokhin led a company of executioners that performed and supervised numerous mass executions during Stalin's reign, most notably during the Great Purge and World War II.
Vera "Dora" Grebeniukova was a high ranking  CHEKA enforcer. Her most heinous crime was in Odessa, she personally multilated 700 "Whites" men, women, children before finishing them off with a bullet to the head. This period was known as the "Red Terror"
Rozalia Zalkind was born in 1876/died in 1947. She organized the "Red Terror" in the Crimea in 1919-21. During this time she had her victims (White Army POWS) drowned,skined, burnt alive, her lover Bela Kun mercifully used machine guns to kill his victims. She personally had a hand in 50,000 grisly executions. Both Lenin and Leon Trostsky praised her barbaric tactics versus White victims, while she was a CHEKA killer.
Communist Secret Police: Jakov Peters, Cheka Deputy to Felix Derzhinsky 1918-26. He was a sadist who enjoyed his work torture, mass executions during the, "Red Terror" 1918-24. He himself was put on trial in 1938 and shot.

Cheka heads/ Yakov Peters/Jozef Unszlicht/A. Yakov Belenky/Felix Dzerzkinsky/Vyacheslav Menzhinsky. CHEKA carried out mass executions, ran GULAGS, terrorized populace. They used shootings/bayonneting/boiled/burnt/froze to death their victims. They even crucified/used rats to eat victims alive. Many of their demented executioners had a real fetish to hunt  down Whites (Christian Orthodox Czarist supporters)
Lazar Kogon: Son of wealthy Jewish merchant. Rose to high position in CHEKA, later OGPU. In 1930-32 headed "Slave labour" GULAG system. Was in charge of using slave labour to build White Canal, 25,000 died from being worked to death. Later, in 1939 he ended up being shot on Stalins orders, poetic justice.
