Start with a custom blue and white oversized flat-weave rug with a medium scale geometric pattern. The rug should be large enough to cover the entire floor leaving just a few inches of floor showing. Place the bed and furniture fully on the rug. Upholster the headboard and some of the chairs in blue and the rest in yellow and gold. Add contrast with accents of brown, white and dark wood tones. Place chairs and lighting to encourage relaxing and reading.
Thomas Britt told Architectural Digest that he "pumped the blue up" in this master bedroom. "The whole trick with these paint treatments is that you have to try them out in the actual space," he says, "then check how the light reflects off the walls and the ceiling." The cream, blue and orange dhurrie rug adds a watery pattern that amplifies the blues of the walls and drapes and also stands up to the bright yellow and reds in the abstract painting.
