Jewish ghettos were sections of cities separated from the city by walls and gates. These ghettos were established by groups, such as the Nazis, to isolate the Jewish people, and the Nazis planned to group the Jews together and eventually massacre them. Malnutrition, overcrowding, and labor were key characteristics of ghettos, and, as demonstrated in this picture, most residents did not have much money. The boys in the picture are wearing worn out clothes and are barefoot.
