A Kokeshi is a traditional Japanese wooden doll, which originated some time in the 19th century. I’m not big on history; I actually hate it, so this is as far as I got on the wikipedia page before my brain shut down.  All I know is that they were once toys & souvenirs, and now somewhat of Japan’s cultural icon.
