Divisional Scouts of the Soviet 27th Guards Rifle Division. February or March 1945, Kustrin bridgehead. Someone has marked with a frame the two scouts who were KIA one or two days after this photograph was taken. According to reports, Scout Vasily Kozatsuk was blown up by a German mine; his comrades later said that a piece of flesh that was found on his quilted jacket was all that was left of him. After the explosion the Germans opened fire and the second unnamed scout was also killed.
