This marble sculpture of Medusa was made in 1650-1652 by Artus Quellinus for the Tribunal of the former Town Hall. Medusa, one of the three ghastly sisters known as the Gorgons, is shown with a frightful face, bulging eyes and snakes instead of hair. She looked so terrible that anyone who saw her was turned to stone.
