Crackowes or Poulaines - worn by Polish nobles who introduced them to England on diplomatic visits, some points on these shoes were so long they had to be held up with a chain running from the toe to the knee.
Circa 13th to 14th century. ESSEX. Copper alloy. 41mm dia. A copper-alloy annular brooch of the medieval period. It consists of a ring on which there are three moulded flowers and two heraldic shields. The flowers are equally spaced around the ring, and all three are of the same size and six-petalled design. The shields are positioned at the centre of two of the arcs between the flowers, and they bear different heraldic arms. The third arc is reduced in section at the centre to fit the pin.
