The following flow chart depicts the different types of connective tissue and how they are characterized. Connective tissue is characterized with more matrix than cell body, varying vascularity, and often specialized to support, bind, and protect organs. They are the most abundant and diverse tissue type. They can be categorized as fibrous (loose and dense connective tissue), supportive (cartilage, bone), or fluid (blood).
