Blue dress, New England, 1775-1795.   Woman’s one-piece robe á l’anglaise (round gown) in blue wool tabby, with the waist seam entirely bisecting bodice and skirt. The skirt is made up of three selvage-to-selvage widths, and is box-pleated into the waist seam all around. The gown has three-quarter-length sleeves, and a square neckline in front and back. Chintz round gown - 1775-1790 - This round gown is made of a glazed printed cotton which was popular for gowns. It would have been available for purchase once the Revolutionary War ended and fabric was once again being imported from Britain. Round gowns became popular during the last quarter of the 18th century. Most gowns in the 18th century had the skirts split down the front, allowing the petticoat to show.
