Great work on writing ideas for Daily 5!

Another week has gone by! It's time again for... A simple Place Value game today and as every teacher knows, we always need more Place Value practice! I have played this game with Grade 1's, 2's and 3's! All you need is a deck of cards! Have fun - simply add more players and more cards to make your numbers larger! Click on the instruction sheet to download. For Australian Teachers Thank you to Jessica Weible for the cute background. All previous Math Game Monday's are available on the Math…

Wow! What a week! I an linking up (albeit a little late) with Doodle Bugs Teaching's Five For Friday! 1. We have had some really weird weather this winter here in Phoenix - Record lows, record highs, and record rainfall (all within 10 days of each other, and then THIS... SNOW! IN PHOENIX! While I am typing this Math Game Monday, we are on our way back from a wedding in the wine region of the Barossa Valley in South Australia - it's a long drive - but luckily I have a computer to play on! Here's a quick snap or two to make you jealous! Did anyone try the "One Game for the Week" that I discussed last week? Using the same game as a warm up to each Maths lesson you teach for the week to build children's mental computation skills? Here's a few things I noticed.... 1. The kids…

A Math Game Monday for this week - perfect timing, just as I am heading back to school for the start of Term 4! This is a game my cousins taught me when we were in the USA for Thanksgiving one year. I am sure we spent the whole of the afternoon playing this game! Although there is not a strong maths base to it - I thought it was fun to share anyway! So here is Spoons! Click on the instruction sheet to download. Thank you to Jessica Weible for the cute background. All previous Math Game…

A Math Game Monday for this week - just a little late, but it is worth it! This is a number game - it can be played at anytime. As a warm up, for early finishes, time filler and at any stage during the year. If you modify the game it can easily suit grades Kindergarten right through to 4th Grade! A worksheet is also included that you can cut into 4, however, children could easily draw their own number path on mini whiteboards or in their math books. Click on the instruction sheet to…

Today's game is Make this Number. You need both dice and a deck of cards to play. It develops skills in adding and subtracting using playing cards to reach the number rolled on the dice. You can also extend to being able to use multiplication and division. All instructions are available in this week's download. All instructions are included in the download - just click on the image below! For Australian Teachers Thank you to Jessica Weible for the cute background. Click here if you missed…

It's time again for... Today's game is called Flip 3 and Add. It's a simple game that requires only a deck of cards between partners. What I really like about this game is the variations you can make to change the game to suit the needs of the children in your class. Differentiation at it's best! All instructions are included in the download - just click on the image below! For Australian Teachers And as always, thanks to Miss N from Coffee, Kids and Compulsive Lists for the cute…

I have to say that I’ve been blessed with two kids who LOVE to learn. Trust me when I say that I know this isn’t always the case so I am very grateful that {at this moment in time} they love it. My wish is NOT for them to be at the top of …

Monday, Monday... Today's game is called Race to 100. A simple game that requires only dice, small whiteboards, whiteboard markers and erasers or a workbook. The goal is to roll dice, keep a running tally and reach 100. There many ways to change this activity so it best suits your children including different target numbers, types of dice and number of dice. Find all the details in the download. All instructions are included in the download - just click on the image below! For Australian…

I mentioned last week that I attended a Professional Development session last Monday with Maths guru Andrea Hillbrick. My teaching partner and I have currently been using games as a warm up to each Maths lesson we teach. Every week, we would plan 5 different warm up games (all mental computation) to add variety. After listening to Andrea and taking on her suggestion of one game a week - we are going to try it out this week. This is our plan: Day 1: Teach the game (if unknown) and children…

I feel like I am really slack with my blog posts at the moment. It is report writing time, end of term time and there seems to be plenty going on at the moment! AND this is the third time I have tried to post this post - between the internet going in and out, being without internet and the internet at work blocking me out, it has been long process! Anyway, at least I am on here once a week to post a great game for you! Today is it Queen's Birthday Holiday in Australia and it was lovely to…
