Iara (also known as Lady of Waters, Water Queen and Mother Water) is the Brazilian goddess of water. She is seen as either a water nymph, siren, or mermaid depending upon the context of the story. Iara is a beautiful young woman, connected to a freshwater dolphin, manatee or fish body.
